To Find Your Way Back Home

As part of a painting unit for two classes of year 6 we explored the theme of ‘travel’ through the mapping of their own travel to and from school. The students also investigated different methods of abstract painting methods when creating their artwork.

Paired Adjectives

A class of year 6 students have recently completed their unit on sculpture. They were asked to create a wire sculpture inspired by the artist Joseph Pavel, using paired adjectives that they felt best described themselves. These sculptures are currently hung from the ceiling in the Art Centre and are each intricately created.

Year 6 Calder Circus

This term a group of year 6 students have been exploring the possibilities of moveable and interactive art with the support of their student teacher Mr Kobylecki. They were introduced to the circus sculptures created by Alexander Calder and were given the task of creating their own versions using found material and cardboard. Each student created movies of their interactive circus artworks, one of which can be watched below.

Art Kites

Yesterday a group of year 6 students finally had some windy weather to go fly their art kites. They each researched an Art movement and then chose an artwork from that period and reproduced this on a homemade kite. Although their kites didn’t get quite off the ground, they still had an immensely enjoyable time running around with their beautiful creations. What a fantastic way to see Art in action.
