Printmaking Methods: Intaglio

The group of year 10 Visual Art students are currently exploring printmaking methods in their Visual Study this term. They experimented with techniques of the Intaglio Dry-Point etching method and printed their own Forest snapshots. These etchings were completed in a double lesson and they used a variety of methods materials to add depth their work, including; sandpaper, masking tape, etching scribes and scalpels. This process allowed students to create depth to their etching by ‘incising’ grooves for the ink to seep into the acetate sheets. What wonderful explorations in such a short period of time.

Year 10 progress

Here are just some of the Major 2D artworks nearing completion for this semesters group of year 10’s. They continued from their Minor theme of ‘Distorted Beauty’ in the genre of portraiture/figurative. They have all approached this with such original variations that show just how broad this theme can really be. All students have used authentic imagery that they have taken as well. All Senior Art/Design/Fashion subjects will be exhibiting their work in week 4 as part of our annual Senior School Art Exhibition.

The following images are of the final major artworks the class of year 10’s completed for this semester. Year 10 : Alternative Drawing

This term the year 10 students have been exploring alternative drawing processes and looking at how ‘limitations’ can encourage creative thinking. As part of their Layering Unit the students here explored how they can draw on transparent contact and create new imagined landscapes over their own environment. They stuck these on the classroom windows as a way to integrate numerous landscapes into an assembled artwork.

Year 10 “A Song is a Story”

Here are the final finished artworks by the group of year 10 Visual Art Students. Their ‘portraits’ are meant to encapsulate a mindscape of what a song of their choice conjured for them. They vandalized these with texta’s and watercolors, giving the impression of a landscape that is damaged, transient, and affected by the user.
