During the first semester this year a class of year 7 students embarked on creating their own illustrated cookbook inspired by a number of professional illustrators they researched. They were given the task of collecting recipes that are commonly used in their own home and creating drawings to represent them. Each week they were introduced to alternative drawing processes and were encouraged to ‘play’ with these skills to express their ideas. The results were stunning and all so authentic. These drawings were then showcased as a professionally printed cookbook as a way to celebrate and make permanent the endeavors of our students. This hardcover book was made especially for the students in the class and copies of it are in the middle school library.
It is such a special moment to see the work of our students remembered in such permanent way in our school.
