Nurture Nature

The year 6 students this term have been exploring organic shapes within nature and have focused on the form of the sunflower seed. They were each lesson given sunflower seeds (many were interested in the taste of the seeds) and were asked to draw with ink the shape and pattern on their individual seeds. Some remarked that each seed had a different pattern and some were completely black. They have also created paper marquettes of their seeds as practice for their final artwork. They are currently working on the clay slab construction of over sized sunflower seeds. The students were also involved in researching and exploring the natural wood constructions by Liz McAuliffe as inspiration.
