The year 6’s have been very busy this term. They have been learning about Abstract Expressionist Sculptors and also about how to ‘Deconstruct’. They have been creating deconstructed cane sculptures based on objects they found around the school. They drew these objects, then created repeating patterns based on parts of their forms, which then was used to ‘inspire’ their cane sculptures. In order for them to bend the cane, they had to first soak it in water and then wrap it round a board of nails, which creates a ‘free-form’ template. Their final design will each be installed within the middle school library where they will be suspended from their ceiling beams.
Here are some year 6’s very busy using their critical problem solving skills to create their sculptures.
